My Story

invitationSix years ago I studied the Torah and Jewish traditions with my Cantor & after 2 years I was ready to have my adult Bat-Mitzvah. So a month before I was told that I had to wear a tallit to read the Torah. I went to many Jewish gift shops and went online to buy my special tallit. Every tallit I saw was the same and boring and expensive for the same and boring. Boring I'm not.

I wanted a tallit that expressed my originality. So I searched for, "How to make your own tallit". There are very strick Kosher laws that I had to follow.  The only thing I had every sewn before, was quilting squares. But I felt I had to try. So, off I went to find fabrics that spoke to me. And by morning's first light I had made myself my own very special tallit.

On the day of my Bat-Mitzvah there I was proudly wearing my tallit and chanting from the Torah in front of my closest friends & family.

Afterward, in the receiving line, I must have had over 20 people ask me where they could buy a tallit like mine for their daughters. Hence, my business was born.

The name of my business is Chava Chai, my Hebrew name. The first letter of each name is a chet. I intertwined the two chets and had my logo.

The picture at right is my handmade Bat-Mitzvah invitation.
